Maximising your Social Media Presence

Politics  Plus, working in collaboration with Eximo Marketing, provided MLAs and their staff with an information session entitled ‘Maximising your Social Media Presence’ on Tuesday 14 May 2019.

The half day workshop started with an introductory session about creating a social media strategy.

This was followed up with ‘Social Media 101’, an introduction to all the major platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.  Members and their staff were given an overview of the basic etiquette of each platform and received helpful tips on deciding whether to launch on a new platform.

The final part of the session concentrated on Twitter – exploring the platform in great detail, providing research and statistics on maximising reach and enhancing content through hashtags, images and videos.  It also touched on dealing with negativity and how to deal with trolls.

Speaking before the workshop, Andi Jarvis (founder of Eximo Marketing) commented, “Although social media is an essential tool for modern politics, this direct route to the general public presents new challenges for political parties, Members and their teams.  The ‘always on’ nature of the tools, the limitations inherent in the platforms and the potential for comments to go viral can make social media a minefield”.
