As part of our international work, Politics Plus hosts international exchange programmes to support the sharing of knowledge and best practice.
On Monday 22 June 2015, Politics Plus welcomed 18 students and two members of staff from De Paul University, Chicago, to Northern Ireland for a week-long study visit.
Founded in 1898, De Paul University is located in the heart of the Windy City and is home to over 23,000 students. The University places a strong emphasis on recruiting first-generation students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds and, as a result, it has one of the most diverse student populations in the United States.
De Paul operates a highly popular Study Abroad Programme that allows students to spend time in places ranging from Agra to Zurich with the aim of expanding their knowledge and broadening their perspective. This year, students studying ethical leadership came to Belfast to participate in a bespoke programme developed by Politics Plus. During their visit they met with a wide range of high profile individuals, including the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, representatives from the Office of the First and deputy First Minister, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Attorney General. In the evenings the students had the opportunity to explore Belfast and take part in various cultural activities, including a tour of the Peace Walls and an interactive ‘Gaeltacht Experience’ at Cultúrlaan.
