Women in Politics Programme 2017

Politics Plus are hosting their second Women in Politics Programme on Wednesday 14th & Thursday 15th June

Due to the success of the first Women in Politics Programme, Politics Plus are running a second programme on Wednesday 14th & Thursday 15th June.

The aim of the programme is for participants to increase their knowledge, enhance confidence and develop a range of new tools, to support their political career. This will include developing a unique Personal Action Plan that can be applied within their party. The approach will be participative and practice focused.

The course will be delivered over a two day residential and an additional full day, and will cover the following units:

Day One

Session 1: Building Networks, Confidence and Strengthening Personal Resilience – There is no doubt that working within the political arena can be tough. This session will equip participants with the skills to build their confidence and enable them to become more resilient to the type of situations they are likely to face. Participants will also learn how to forge new contacts and explore the best ways to grow and maintain networks to support their political careers.

Session 2: Leading the Trail – What makes a successful leader? Honesty; Compassion; Confidence; Flexibility? Participants will explore what qualities are necessary to become an effective and influential leader.

Day Two

Session 3: Planning for Success – In this session participants will learn how to think strategically about their political career paths and develop their own unique personal action plan to help them identify and achieve their career goals.

Session 4: Dealing with Difficult Conversations – Elected representatives encounter difficult conversations at Assembly, Council, party and constituency level. Having the ability to progress through to a positive and effective outcome is essential. This session will provide participants with the skills necessary to handle such situations.

Following the two day residential, there will be a further full day session at the E3 Studio, Belfast in July, to cover the final training session.

Session 5: Handling the Media – This highly interactive session will cover all aspects of engaging with the media and participants will have the opportunity to take part in filmed interviews and practice radio interviews.

Bookings are being sought from parties, so please let them know if you are interested in participating.
