REPRESENT Women’s Ambassador Forum – Driving positive change on issues that matter

To mark this exciting centenary year in celebrating women’s rights, Politics Plus will host REPRESENT Women's Ambassador Forum

Politics Plus is delighted to host REPRESENT Women’s Ambassador Forum as part of The Next Chapter PEACE IV programme, to develop women’s ideas to support the transition out of conflict, and debate and discuss gender equality in community, public and political life in Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland.

Journalist and producer Yvette Shapiro will host a series of exciting panels and discussions focusing on the representation of women in business and innovation, politics, the media, civic and community life. Our inspiring panels will explore how far women have come in levelling the playing field and the challenges they face into the future. The event will include speakers of local, national and international renown including Businesswomen and Transparency Campaigner Gina Miller and former PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie.

“Women have a vital role to play in leading and managing organisations in the public and private sphere here, and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and to learning from others at this first-of-its-kind event.”  Judith Gillespie

“Northern Ireland will be one of the areas most affected by Brexit and I am delighted to attend this event where I look forward to hearing at first hand from women living and working in the region.”  Gina Miller

The success of the next generation of peace-building and reconciliation work relies on the increased participation of women, and the objective of this event is to motivate, inspire and create a pathway for women to enter community, public and political life.

“We are delighted to welcome this unrivalled programme of speakers for REPRESENT, the first Women’s Ambassador Forum,” said Joanne Jennings, Head of Programmes at Politics Plus. ” These women represent all walks of life, and have accomplished so much in improving local communities, empowering others, challenging stereotypes and orthodoxies, and stepping forward to show leadership. With speakers from across Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK, this was an exceptional opportunity to hear some of the most inspiring speakers and activists on these islands.”

Confirmed delegates include organisations from the women’s sector, as well as Next Chapter Programme participants, students from Belfast Metropolitan College studying HND Broadcast Journalism and other invited guests.

The Next Chapter is a civic leadership programme that aims to increase the participation of women in community, public and political life, led by Politics Plus, working in partnership with the Northern Ireland Community and Voluntary Association (NICVA) and Irish Rural Link. This project is funded by the European Union’s Peace IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

This event is kindly supported by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
