Presidential Debates: Risky Business on the Campaign Trail

Politics Plus are hosting three-time Emmy Award winner Alan Schroeder on Friday 16 September 2016 in Parliament Buildings, Stormont. The event will focus on how Presidential debates operate and their potential impact on Presidential campaigns and elections. In particular, Alan Schroeder will focus on the upcoming televised Presidential live debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

A professor in the School of Journalism at Northeastern University Boston, Alan Schroeder specialises in visual journalism, having authored books including Presidential Debates: 50 Years of High-Risk TV and Celebrity-in-Chief: How Show Business Took Over the White House.

Alan has written about media-related topics for outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post and the Guardian. He has also lectured on the global phenomenon of televised debates in Spain, Germany, Denmark and Peru. Before becoming a professor, Alan worked as a journalist, television producer, and diplomat, and so has amassed years of experience in producing and presenting for the media.

The event will provide a fascinating insight into the world of 24-hour media coverage and analysis of political campaigns which are saturated with political ads and social media hashtags.
