About the Event
This training will focus on the public sector equality duty also known as Section 75. Section 75 of the NI Act 1998 puts a duty on designated public authorities to equality screen all policy decisions before implementation, and to pay due regard to promoting equality of opportunity across nine protected grounds. This session will take you through what equality is and what it is not, the under used positive action duties, and case studies showing good and bad applications of the equality duty.
The session will demonstrate what you should be asking officials when they come to you with a policy; this covers areas such as equality screening, consultation, training and equality impact assessments. All examples used will be cases from Northern Ireland Government Departments and other public sector bodies in recent years.
