An effective Chairperson plays an important role in ensuring that their Committee functions properly by encouraging full participation from all Committee Members. It is the chairperson’s responsibility to recognise Members and witnesses who are seeking to speak during proceedings; to ensure the rules of the Committee meeting are respected and adhered to; and to maintain order during Committee proceedings.
Therefore, it is imperative that there is a good working relationship between the Chairperson and the Clerk to the Committee, as they need to work closely together to make sure all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and implemented.
The Politics Plus Chairing Programme has been developed with all this in mind. It aims to equip both the Chairperson and the Clerk with the necessary skills to carry out their respective roles effectively.
This programme will be delivered over 3 half day sessions.
